DR1 cites Hoy: Government needs to fulfill Electricity Law

Meanwhile, today's Hoy newspaper reports that Luis Arthur, speaking for the Association of Industries of Herrera, complained that the government is itself in breach of the General Electricity Law. He said that the industrial sector should start legal processes to oblige the government to respect the requirements of the law. He mentioned that the law establishes that the power distribution companies reimburse consumers with an hour of free power for every hour of blackout. Moreover, the government has not allowed the fulfillment of the law in regards to large consumers connecting directly to generators for savings that in many cases could mean the difference between staying in business and going bust. Arthur complained that the power distribution companies are buying power from the generators at US$0.9 the kilo, while selling it at US$0.23, for a 150% profit.
Arthur complained that the government organization created to protect electricity service consumers is at the service of the distributors, not the consumers.
